Finding a Good Lawyer

I need a real estate lawyer. I’m looking to buy a house but I’ve never done it before, so I need some advice. The problem I have is that I don’t know how to find a lawyer because I’ve never needed one before. Even when I got divorces, my ex and I were quite civil and didn’t need attorneys. So how can I find a lawyer? I got it! I’ll check the Internet. There’re always tons of lawyers advertising there. I’ve talked with a few people who’ve had to utilize the services of a decent lawyer for reasons of their own, and they suggested some steps to follow to find the best attorney for my situation. Some of those steps are:

1. Ask others for recommendations
2. Look through the state or local bar association’s register
3. Check a lawyer-matching service
4. Peruse an online lawyer directory

All of these are great suggestions and I’ll certainly put them to use. I know that word-of-mouth is the best way to get true information about a business or individual, so if I talk to my friends and acquaintances and one or two attorneys’ names come up repeatedly, I’ll make appointments to meet with them.  Eventually, I’m sure I’ll be able to choose the right real estate attorney for my needs. I wonder, though, if using the same process would work to find a local divorce lawyer. I have a cousin who is just about to get divorced, and he might need a lawyer to stand up for him. I’ll bet the steps to find a real estate lawyer will be just as effective to find a divorce attorney or a group of Divorce Lawyers For Men.  I think it will be in my cousin’s best interests to go with a lawyer who works specifically on behalf of men, rather than one who’ll work for whichever side hires him. Lots of times, men’s rights are ignored during a divorce; with the help of an experienced, effective men’s attorney, perhaps my cousin will be given a fair share of the community property and possibly even custody of the kids.
